The 2000 - 2005 Scoreboard design

History
My interest for backgammon started in the late 80's where my friends and I played backgammon every day after school. In 1991 I won a few tournaments and that really got me interested in playing some more. I attended several tournaments and even though I didn't win every time I thought it was good fun.

But before the backgammon scoreboard where invented people wrote down their score on a piece of paper laying on each side of the board. But I always felt annoyed about not be able to quickly determine the score. Often the standard questions from the spectators were: "What's the score?", "Is it the Crawford game?" or "Who is in the lead?".

So back in 1997 I decided to do something about it at a local tournament at the "Nybrogård Kollegium" where I lived. One night I have printed out the numbers from 1 to 5 on each side on two piles and glued them together.

Even though it was poor quality and very "hand made" the idea was born. Next week I had updated the design to include the Crawford and Post Crawford tab, and I have fixed the piles on some cardboard sides so it could stand beside the board. In the beginning people thought it was ridiculous but I always used it whenever I played.

In 2000 I sold my first scoreboard, and I started to work on the design improving the quality of the scoreboard. I bought my own materials and I used the machinery at my work for cutting and assembling the scoreboards. Not long after I sold my first scoreboard I made an agreement with the Danish Backgammon Federation to have them to sell the scoreboards I've made.

Years went and the backgammon scoreboard became more and more popular, and they were now used for television transmitted finales as the Nordic Open and Paris Open.

In 2006 I made an agreement with a local printing office to created the Michael Bo Backgammon Scoreboard which improved the quality of the scoreboard dramatically. TrueMoneyGames became a sponsor for the National League and they've used the backgammon scoreboard as a gift for all elite players in Denmark.

I certainly hope you will enjoy the backgammon scoreboard as much as I do.

PS. The Backgammon Scoreboard is not the only contribution to the world of backgammon. I'm also the auther of Michael's 432 Rule, a small aid in a bear off situation with one man on the bar.
